Karena is an experienced Māori language teacher, researcher, translator and corporate consultant based in Wellington. For over 15 years, she has taught Māori language and linguistics at both the Victoria University of Wellington and other significant platforms for te reo, including national and iwi-based Kura Reo and wānanga. She also consults with a range of Māori, corporate, and Crown entities, providing professional development and strategic advice.

Karena is driven to support Māori language revitalisation. She does this through quality language teaching, meaningful and practical research, and informing the thoughtful integration of te reo in new environments.
